The Congressional Super since September has been negotiating behind closed doors, and they have until Nov. 23—the day before Thanksgiving—to reach an agreement on at least $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction measures. There are 17 “working days” between now and D Day. If these Super guys were required to work weekends, we could buy a few more days for them to save our collective shirt, but it’s not reasonable to ask them that. After all, they are Super.

Since this moment of truth comes just one day before turkey day, I had a brilliant idea concerning the “art of the deal:” Compromise. And I find myself agreeing with Herman Cain, who characterizes himself as The CEO of Self. He said, “Don’t blame Wall Street, don’t blame the big banks. If you don’t have a job and you are not rich, blame yourself!” You know the dude has a point. We really can’t blame anyone for being stupid. Like all the rest of us, the Super Guys can only understand matters with some experience.

So here’s my brilliant idea—For the next 8.5 days (allowing a half-day for traveling), let them go to a local dairy farm where they will more than likely find a few turkeys and experience the farming culture. Then they can gain the requisite experience and overcome their ignorance and still have another 8.5 days to put into practice what they learn. If that happens, then only will they understand you can’t milk a cow without feeding it. The problem is just that simple. The Super Guys, because they have never seen a farm, think milk comes from the Super Market and thus don’t realize it comes from the farm where Old McDonald actually feeds his cows so they can continue to deliver milk to their local market.

These poor gents believe that we can sustain an economy by taking all of the milk without feeding the culture that enables the milk. Instead, they want to continue milking it dry. The cows will then die off, and no more milk in the market of the Super Guys. Seventeen days and counting. Time for a farm visit.
